True North Missions, International Healthcare Program - Central America

True North Missions News for 2008

Thanks to the generous contributions of many and the continued support of our partners, Synergy Medical Education Alliance and AT Still University, 2008 has been a busy year.  We have continued to expand our care for the Mayans of Guatemala.  We now provide primary care for 12 villages and one orphanage on The Rio Dulce River.  Some of the villages are so remote that they require a boat ride and a vigorous hike to access.

This year we treated over 3400 patients, dispensed 30,000 multi-vitamins to children, 10,000 vitamins to adults and 3000 prenatal vitamins.  We dewormed 2900 children and their families.  We also provided dental care and did over 300 procedures, primarily sealants.  We also started growth charts on all the children at Casa Guatemala Orphanage and will continue that program in January, 2009.

It takes many people to make an effort like this possible.  I want to thank everyone involved for their help, support and prayers.
